Chen Xiangbo
Chinese fine-brush painter, specializes in classical bird-and-flower painting, delights in exploring innovations in contemporary ink art, actively fosters the fusion of traditional art and pop art toy, and is committed to public welfare initiatives that advance the development of Chinese fine-brush painting.
Born in 1963 in Shaoyang, Hunan Province, he holds the title of National First-Class Artist. He formerly served as Director of the Guan Shanyue Art Museum (2008–2023) and is currently the Art Center Director at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University. He is also the founder of the "Chen Xiangbo Art Foundation" under the Shenzhen Project Care Foundation and the Shenzhen Charity Federation. In 2023, he was honored as one of the "Top Ten Caring Figures" of the 20th Shenzhen Project Care.
Professional Background
In 2022, he designed the main visual image "Rui Hu" (Auspicious Tiger) for the China Central Television (CCTV) Spring Festival Gala. In 2023, he acted as the Chief Designer for the China Central Television (CCTV) Spring Festival Gala's mascot "Tu Yuanyuan." In 2024, he was the Chief Designer for the logo and mascot "Huo Chu Quan" (a internet slang means extremely popular) for the Third Hunan Tourism Development Conference.
He currently holds several key positions, including Vice President of the China Hue Art Association, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Artists Association, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chairman of the Shenzhen Artists Association, and Vice Director of the Art Museum Committee under the Chinese Museums Association. Additionally, he serves as a Master's Supervisor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, a Doctoral Supervisor at the City University of Macau, and a Doctoral Supervisor at Shinawatra University in Thailand. He is a member of the China Artists Association and serves on its Curatorial Art Committee. He also holds roles as a Council Member of the Chinese Painting Institute, Vice President of the Chinese Painting Institute of Guangdong Province, and Executive Vice President of the Guangdong Art Museum Association. He has been recognized as an expert receiving special government allowances from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, a local-level leading talent, an expert of the Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Area, and Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Art & Design Alliance. Previously, he served as a deputy to the 6th and 7th Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress.
His professional expertise encompasses art museum management and curation, the creation and research of Chinese painting, and art education. He has made pioneering contributions, particularly in the operation and curation of art museums, research on Guan Shanyue's art, and fine-brush painting creation. To date, he has created over 600 artworks, which have been featured in various publications. Nearly 100 of his works are held in the collections of major domestic and international institutions, including the National Art Museum of China. He has held more than ten solo exhibitions in the United States, Hungary, Hong Kong, and the mainland of China, and has received numerous awards in national and provincial-level exhibitions. He has published seven personal monographs and edited over 100 art collections and essay anthologies. Furthermore, he has authored more than a million words of academic papers on art, published in professional journals, anthologies, and art collections.
