Zhou Zhiyuan

Born in Hunan in 1976, Zhou Zhiyuan has served in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Shenzhen People’s Hospital for 18 years, engaging directly with life and death on a daily basis. He has been involved in nearly all critical medical incidents in recent years—commended for his role in the 2003 fight against SARS, part of the Shenzhen-based rescue team for severely injured victims of the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, and led frontline relief efforts during the 2015 Shenzhen Guangming debris flow disaster. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he remained at the forefront of the response.

A science graduate, he once believed rationality could solve all worldly problems. Yet with accumulated experience, he came to a realization: more solutions breed more problems; more knowledge deepens more doubts.
